Bashundhara Kings became champions in the Walton Federation Cup Football beating Saif Sporting Club by a solitary goal in the final at the flood-lit Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.
The first half was locked 0-0
After a barren first half, Bashundhra’s Argentine recruit Raul Oscar Besera got a through pass from his Brazilian teammate Robson and Besera scored the all-important goal by a left-footer placing shot in the 52nd minute of the match.
In the 69th minute Saif Sporting Club’s Negerian recruit Keneth struck a power-packed shot but Bashundhara’s goalie Anisur Rahman saved the shot at the cost of a corner.
Earlier, Saif Sporting Club’s Rahmat Mia hit a sudden shot but it was saved by Bashundhra’s custodian Anisur Rahman.
Later, Saif Sporting Club’s Nigerian recruit John struck a grounder in the 73rd minute of the game but his shot narrowly passed away the side bar.
It was a fifty-fifty affair but reigning champions Bashundhara Kings retained their title by following their Spanish Coach Oscar’s match-winning technique.
After the entertaining final State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP, distributed the prizes among the winners as the chief guest. The high officials of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) were present at the time.
