Journalists urged to remain united against communal evils

Journalist leaders of the port city called upon the government to award severe punishment to those damaging Bangabandhu’s sculpture in Kushtia and arrest of the instigators. They urged the journalist community to remain united against communal evils.
The demand was made at a protest rally organized by Chattogram Journalists Union (CUJ) and Chattogram Press Club held on the Press Club premises on Saturday morning with Press Club President Ali Abbas in the chair duly moderated by the General Secretary of CUJ Shamsul Islam.
Speakers at the rally said that the journalist community of Chattogram was vocal in the past against the evil forces. People across the country have become vocal against those who want to create in the country with various provocative statements against sculpture. None of their misdeeds will allow the people of this country to succeed.
Journalist leaders said that even after 50 years of independence, the anti-independence forces are trying to create havoc. But the people of Bangladesh will never allow that to happen.
They said that Bangabandhu and Bangladesh are one and the same. An attack on the sculpture of Bangabandhu means an attack on freedom and sovereignty. The nation cannot accept this attack. The speakers said that those who have shown such audacity and their instigators should be arrested immediately and brought to justice.
CUJ President Mohammad Ali, BFUJ Vice-President Riaz Haider Chowdhury, CUJ Senior Vice-President Ratan Kanti Debashish, Press Club General Secretary Chowdhury Farid, CUJ Vice-President Anindya Tito, BFUJ Joint Secretary General Mohsin Kazi addressed the rally.
