Zillur wants protection of journalists

After the abduction of journalist Golam Sarwar, the movement of journalists in Chattogram to rescue him intensified, said the Chairman of BRAC and Eminent Economist Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman. He said that it is the responsibility of the State as well as the media to ensure the safety and security of the journalists. He made the remarks at a press conference titled ‘Ethical, Investigative Journalism, Security and Capability’ at the Chittagong Press Club at yesterday.
 The press conference was organized by Chittagong Research Initiative (CRI) and Chandnaish Media Club.
Hossain Zillur Rahman, a former adviser to the caretaker government, said ethical, objective and investigative journalism was one of the key factors in building Bangladesh. This responsibility is not easy. It is important to ensure the safety and security of journalists along the way. It is the responsibility of the media as well as the state to meet this need. He said the dangers faced by Golam Sarwar, a young journalist from Chittagong, while carrying out his professional duties, had worried citizens at all levels.
Facing such dangers in fulfilling the professional responsibilities of journalists is an obstacle in building a better Bangladesh. Such incidents are not acceptable at all. Zillur Rahman, executive chairman of the research institute Power and Participation Research Center (PPRC), said many families fell into the uncertainty of the multi-faceted economy after incidents like Golam Sarwar’s.
I have decided to extend a helping hand as much as possible to alleviate his economic woes. ‘One of the purposes of this event is to co-operate with Sarwar. I have been searching for Sarwar since he went missing. I am very happy and inspired to see the responsible role of Chittagong journalists in this incident. Many more professionals like me have been inspired, “he said.
