Desh, a dance piece directed by reputable British-Bangladeshi choreographer and performer Akram Khan, was presented at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the city’s Segun Bagicha area recently.
Akram Khan along with his troupe performed at the show.
The British Council and Bengal Foundation jointly organised the event.
The performance was followed by an interview session with Akram Khan.
There was also be a live outdoor screening of the performance, along with the workshops and panel discussions.
According to the organisers, Desh, which means ‘Homeland’ in Bangla, uphold the multiple tales of land, nation, resistance and convergence into the body and voice of one man trying to find his balance in an unstable world.
The central theme of Akram Khan’s choreography presented an identity crisis born from the juxtaposition of a collective past and the personal present.
The 80-minute piece Desh highlighted the internal quandary of a vulnerable individual struggling to find his sense of place.
No entry pass was needed at the programme but due to the limited numbers of seats, the organisers arranged them on first come first served basis.
