‘Mymensingh Geetika Theatre Fest’ begins

On the occasion of the 150th show of Sonai Madhab, a six-day Mymensingh Geetika Theatre Festival is being held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in city’s Segun Bagicha area now.
The festival, to be organised by Loko Natyadal, began on September 25 and will continue till September 30.
International Theatre Institute (ITI) worldwide president Ramendu Majumder presented as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the festival.
ITI Bangladesh centre president Nasir Uddin Yousuff, Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation former chairman Mamunur Rashid, its presidium member Jhuna Chowdhury and secretary general Aktaruzzaman were also present as special guests at the ceremony, which was chaired by Loko Natyadal president Abhijit Chowdhury.
The organisers are arranging soirees of folksongs everyday on the academy premises.
Six plays, based on Mymensingh Geetika, are scheduled to be staged during the festival to begin everyday at 7:00pm.
Jahangirnagar Theatre staged Dasyu Kenaramer Pala on the inaugural day.
Loko Natyadal’s Sonai Madhab will be staged on September 26, while Shikar Natya Sampradaya from Kishoreganj will stage Chandrabati on September 27, Natyadhara’s Ayna Bibir Pala on September 28, Jahangirnagar University’s drama and dramatics department’s Mahua on September 29 and Natya Tritha’s Komla Sundari on September 30, said the organisers. n
