Latest New

Staff Reporter: The High Court on Thursday granted permanent bail to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in a defamation case for making derogatory remarks about the number of Liberation War martyrs and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on December 21, 2015.
Justice Md Abu Zafor Siddique and Justice ASM Abdul Mobin passed the order after hearing a rule issued earlier over granting bail to the BNP chief.
The HC granted a six-month bail to Khaleda Zia on August 12, 2018 in the defamation case and also issued the rule asking the government to explain why she could not be granted permanent bail.
Later on, the HC several times extended ad interim bail in this case.
Khaleda Zia at a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh raised questions about the actual number of Liberation War martyrs.
She said, “There are controversies over how many were martyred in the Liberation War. There are also many books and documents on the controversies.”
After her speech, Raihan Farooque Imam of Narail’s Naragati filed the case with the Cognisance Court on December 24, 2015.
