KGDCL to install prepaid meters

Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Ltd will install one lakh prepaid meters to domestic consumers in Chattogram .
After installing 60 thousand domestic gas meters in first project of Gas meter, KGDCL has proposed one lakh prepaid gas meters with own funding under second project . The prepaid gas meters became popular among the domestic gas consumers due to austerity of gas consumption. Lack of foreign assistance in second project, KGDCL has taken third project for installing one lakh meters with own finance.
This third project is expected to start very shortly. Managing Director of KGDCL Khaiz Ahmed Majumder told this correspondent that prepaid meters became very popular to the consumers because it is one of the austerity steps.
He further mentioned told that earlier gas would consume 66 cm in domestic use but it came down to 40 cm in a month of one consumer after installation of prepaid meters. Domestic consumers are very befitted from the gas meter, he added.
The project proposal of third project for installing one lakh meters with own finance will be sent to concerned ministry very soon. Following the approval of the concerned ministry, the project proposal will be presented in next ECNEC meeting for finalisation of the project works. The KGDCL Chief also hoped that the primary process for starting installations will be ended by June next.
Estimated cost of the project is T k.258 cr , he added. The project works is expected to begin from July next hich will be completed by June 2023 next.
Under this project, gas meters will be installed in Baizid, Chandgaon, Panchalaish, Chowkbazar, Pahartali, Khulsi, Bakalia, Sadarghat, Kotwali, Halishahar, Double Mooring, Bandar, EPZ, Patenga, Akb arshah, Karnaphuli, Hathazari, Sitakunda, Patiya, Boalkhali, Chandanaish and Anowara areas.
Bills of the prepaid meters will be paid through mobile banking of Bikash, Sure cash and Rocket. Prepaid consumer will have advantages of purchasing prepaid cards from POS Station(point of sales) for recharging the meters , sources said.
