Staff Reporter: Mobile phone operating company Grameenphone (GP) on Sunday paid Tk 10 billion to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) in following the Supreme Court order.
“Grameenphone respects the legal system of Bangladesh and following the order of the honourable Appellate Division the company has without prejudice made an adjustable deposit of Tk 10 billion to BTRC,” said a GP statement.
It said also that the audit was disputable and it will seek a constructive solution through or out of court.
“GP will continue negotiations with the authorities concerned to resolve the matter and it also hopes that its business environment will soon become normal and it’ll ensure quality services to its customers,” the statement said.
The Appellate Division on Thursday ordered Grameenphone to pay Tk 10 billion to BTRC within 24 February (Monday).
On 24 November last year, the Appellate Division asked GP to pay Tk 20 billion of the Tk 125.79 billion dues claimed by BTRC within three months. The deadline has to expire on 23 February.
