Court sent seven grass root level ruling Awami League leader and activists to jail in Barisal on Saturday after police lodged two separate cases against 13 of them for assault on police and drug peddlers .
The Kazi Mahbubur Rahman, officer in charge of Kawnia police station under Barisal Metropolitan Police, said two separate cases lodged by Sub Inspector Shahin with this police station on early Saturday accusing 4 for drug peddling and 9 for assault against police to snatch the arrested drug peddlers.
Police car was damaged in the incident and Mokhlesur Rahman and Sadek Hossain, two injured constables, admitted at Barisal Police Hospital, the OC Kawnia PS told.
Sub Inspector Shahin, complainant of the both cases, said a police patrol team led by him while engaged in duty on pickup at Vatikhana Gauasar area marked suspicious activities of some people in a field and challenged them at about 10:00 pm on Friday.
From there police detained four with hemp and proceed with them to police station.
On the way a group led by Murad Hossain Rintu creating obstacles stopped the police car and tried to snatch the detained their associate drug peddlers.
Police calling reinforcement foiled snatching attempt and succeeded to remain arrested four drug peddlers under their custody.
