The biggest project in the history of Sylhet City Corporation (SCIC) was passed at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
The project, titled ‘Sylhet City Corporation Water Resilience, Pure Water Supply and Infrastructure Construction’, will cost Tk 1,220 crore. The ECNEC meeting was held in the NEC conference room in Sher-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Sylhet Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen. He thanked at a press conference held in the conference room of the city building at 3:30 pm on Tuesday.”Such a big project in the history of the City Corporation has not been approved before,” Mayor Arif said. I thank Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen on behalf of the sylhet city for passing this project to ECNEC.At the same time,I thank Minister of Local Government, Rural development and Cooperatives Mo.Tajul Islam, Planning Minister M.A. Mannan and former Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit. ‘Arif also added, The Prime Minister is always keen on the development of Sylhet. He passed the project proposal we sent for the development of Sylhet city without any cuts.
The mayor said Sylhet City will be able to reduce the waterlogging and ensure the supply of pure water and infrastructure will be constructed at a cost of Tk. 1,228 crore.
The press conference was attended by Sylhet City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Bhidhayok Roy Chowdhury, Panel Mayor Roksana Begum Shahnaz, Councilor Eliasur Rahman, Rakibul Islam Jhalak, Samrat Kar, Abdul Muhit Javed, Tarek Uddin Taj and women councilor Shahnara Begum.
