A four-member team of English giant football club Manchester United has come to Dhaka to monitor the overall situation including the venue, hotel and communications system.
The delegation included football director Allan John Dawson, director (related to friendly match arrangement) Christopher Lawrence Coman, two officials Filip Malcolm Smith and Matthew Charles Jones.
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) confirmed the matter to media on Tuesday morning.
The English Premier League’s club is likely to play a friendly match in Dhaka to add a sensation in Mujib Year celebration.
Manchester United is supposed to come in June 2020. The other team of the friendly is yet to be settled.
BFF general Secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag earlier said, “The delegation of Manchester United comes to Dhaka to settle the auxiliary issues of the match.”
The team is also likely to play a friendly match against Bangladesh national football team during their visit, the minister added.
The government is preparing to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzibur Rahman next year, declared as ‘Mujib Year’.
On the occasion, various programmes like sports, culture and entertainment will be held in educational institutions throughout the year of 2020 and those will continue until March 26, 2021 — the golden jubilee year of the country’s independence.
The four-member delegation also visited the prime football venue Bangabandhu National Stadium. After inspecting the venue, they asked the BFF members why there are five kinds of grass at the big bowl. Manchester United will arrive in the city next year to play a friendly football match against the top football club of Bangladesh. In this regard, the delegation inspected the facilities of the venue, security system, and accommodation during the club’s tour.
