Law enforcers have arrested one person on charge of brutal attack on a local Swechchasebak League leader, who lost his left hand after being hacked and beaten mercilessly by a group of Jubo League men, in Mymensingh’s Gafargaon upazila on September 5.
The victim was identified as Eliyas Noman, a local trader and executive member of Mymensingh district Swechchasebak League.
Danu Miah, the main accused in the case and local JL leader, was arrested on the day of the incident.
Anakul Sarker, Officer-in-Charge of Gaforgan Police Station, told The New Nation on Thursday that of the nine accused, one has been arrested. He said that a five- member committee has been formed led by ASP Hayder Ali to investigate the incident. ” We are looking for the eight others who are involved with the attack.
The 28-year-old victim has regained his consciousness after two days. Then he found his left hand amputated.
Lying in a bed at the capital’s National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), Noman, a supplier of construction materials, said his only fault was that he had tried to help some villagers of Khodaboxpur to get electricity connections in proper way.
He is now deeply worried about his future and family.
Earlier, Eliyas Noman, an executive member of Mymensingh district Swechchasebak League, told the JL leader to refund the villagers’ money as he could not provide power connections to them. Centering the issue he (Noman) came under attack by the JL leader Sarwar and his cohorts.
