CDA evicts illegal structures in Port City

Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) Special Metropolitan Court started demolition drive against illegal infrastructures in cooperation with Bangladesh Army from Tuesday.
CDA Executive Engineer and Project Director Ahmed Moinuddin led the demolition drive started from 11.00 am and continued till 5.00pm besides Rajkhali Canal near Kalpolok Residential Area in Chattogram.
CDA will continue its drive against illegal structure built by occupying the land beside 13 city canals in the port city to implement the mega project which is planned to give a release from water-logging, he said.
He added that CDA will continue the demolition drive against the illegal structure besides 13 city canals next two months.
Talking about the demolition drive, Project Manager of Bangladesh Army Lt Col Sha Ali said, ‘CDA starts drive for the removal of illegal structure alongside the city canal and we are only accompanying them.CDA source said, several multi stored and semi stored building were built by occupying lands besides these canals.
CDA will demolish this illegal infrastructure during the drive for next two months.
On April 9, 2018, CDA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Army for the removal of water-logging in Chattogram city.
After that, the engineering core of Bangladesh Army started constructing retailing wall, road construction and bridges besides the canal.
They also started removing the wastage from these spots.
According to DPP, the cost of the mega project is figured out Tk 5616.50 crore. In 2018, the authority targeted to remove the soil of 36 canals and constructing 300km new drain within three years.
Moreover, 100km new drain construction, excavation of 36 canals, 176 km side wall, 85 km road besides two sides of the canal, 42 silt traps and various infrastructure will construct within 2020.
