Consignment of kiln bricks detected instead of declared wheel chairs at Chattogram Port

Kiln bricks were detected in the three containers imported from China at Chattogram Port instead of declared wheel chairs and glass walker. A Dhaka based importer imported these bricks through false declaration of wheel chairs from China.
In the meantime, Chattogram Customs House informed the matter to concerned Bank where L/C was opened for the import on Monday (May 7) . Acting on information from an intelligence agency, Customs officials, customs conducted physical checking of the containers and detected kiln bricks instead of declared consignment .
Sources said according to Bill of Lading for 1,007 pieces of wheel chairs and 450 pieces of glass walker, only 40 wheel chairs were found inside the container and rest of the containers filled with bricks. Commissioner of Customs Mostafizur Rahman told admitted to the media persons about the deceiving of the importer and the matter was informed to concerned bank and disciplinary actions will be taken against the importer after proper investigation.
