Woman killed in Chattogram fire
UNB, Chattogram :
A 90-year old woman was killed and six houses were gutted in a fire at Dewannagar in Hathazari municipality area on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Salma Khatun, wife of Abdul Gafur of the area.
Md Jashim Uddin, Deputy Assistant Director of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the fire broke out following an electric short circuit at Gafur’s house around 1:15 pm and soon spread to the adjacent houses.
On information, a fire fighting unit from Hathazari Fire Station rushed to the spot and doused the flame after two hours of frantic efforts.
They recovered the charred body of Salma Khatun from her house.
The loss caused by the fire was estimated at TK 8 lakh, he said.
