Court Correspondent :
Two teachers of Northern University were sued on Wednesday for allegedly passing derogatory remarks against the Bangabandhu, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Magistrate Atiqur Rahman of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka took cognizance of the case at 2 pm on Wednesday after hearing. The court also directed the concerned Police Station to investigate
the matter.
The accused teachers are Dr Anwarul Karim, Campus-in-Charge of the university, and Law Faculty teacher Rajib Hashnat Shakil.
The statement of the case says that towards the end of January Rajib Hashnat said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is a ‘Feraun’, President is a Bat-taler Ukil and Prime Minister Hasian is a atheist. He said these in a class of law faculty on the Khulna campus of the university.
Md Naim, a student of the class protested the remark in the classroom and apprised Campus-in-Charge Dr Anwarul Karim of the incident. But the campus in-charge did not take any action against Hasnat. He, rather, threatened the student to expel him from the university and to kill him.
On June 30, the student arranged a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club seeking protection of his studentship in the university and security of life. Later, several newspapers made news stories on the incident.
Advocate Abdul Malek alias Moshur Malek, who identified himself as the President of the Bangabandhu Foundation, filed the case with the CMM Court on Wednesday morning.
The complainant said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the Chief Adviser and Sponsor of the Bangabandhu Foundation, incumbent President is an eminent lawyer and he was elected Member of Parliament several times. He has been aggrieved by the derogatory comments aiming to defame them.
