Art & Culture Report :
The Bengal Foundation with British Council organised a meet between artists and writers interested in their upcoming project titled ‘An Anthology of Graphic Short Stories’ at Bengal Shilpalaya in the city’s Dhanmondi area recently.
The first of its kind to be ever published in Bangladesh, the anthology will be a compilation of short-stories told through the graphic medium. The anthology, to be published by Bengal Publications, will be launched in the UK. Professional and amateur writers and artists interested in participating in the project attended the meet.
Zeenat Choudhury, Director of Bengal Foundation, Nahin Idris and Tareque Mehdi from the British Council, and cartoonist Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy spoke at the event.
The meet was a way to start a dialogue between those interested in the project. The event started with the panel talking about their vision for the graphic anthology and formally introducing the project.
The panel announced the new deadline for submissions to be September 30, in light of the UK launch of the book in April 2015.
The meet was an initiative to introduce the artists and writers interested in the project, and help facilitate a dialogue between them with hopes to foster stronger collaboration possibilities and clear lines of communications between artists, writers and the publisher.
After the announcements, the floor was opened for questions from the audience.
The meet was wrapped up as envisioned, as a first step towards creating a community of artists and writers willing to collaborate and further the graphic arts. n
