Nur put on 8-day remand in Kolkata

A Paschimbanga court placed Nur Hossain, the prime accused in Narayanganj sensational seven-murder case who was arrested there on Saturday night, on an eight-day police remand. S Edwin Lepcha, an additional district judicial magistrate in North 24 Parganas district court at Barasat, granted the eight-day remand as Paschimbanga police sought a 14- day remand after producing Nur to the court around 2pm (local time), a local journalist told UNB. After a hearing, the court passed the order at about 3.05 pm (Local time). The charge brought against him is entering India illegally. Earlier, on Saturday night, Paschimbanga police arrested Nur Hossain from an apartment in Kolkata as Narayanganj police earlier sought Interpol’s help to arrest Nur Hossain. On April 27, Nazrul Islam and his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area in Narayanganj city. Hours into their abduction, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court, Chandan Kumar Sarker, and his driver were abducted on their way to capital Dhaka. Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on April 30. Besides, the body of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya River on May 1. Nur Hossian, a Narayanganj city Awami League leader and also a councillor, and his associates remained absconding following the abduction and killing of Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam, lawyer Chandan Sarker and five others. Shahidul Islam alias Shahid chairman, father-in-law of slain Nazrul Islam, filed a case along with his widowed daughter alleging that some officials of elite force Rab killed Nazrul Islam, in exchange for Tk 6 crore from city councillor Nur Hossain. –UNB, Dhaka.
