Second solo painting
exhibition of artist Samar Majumder titled Mrittika Maya (Earthen Affection) was held
at La Galerie of the Alliance Francaise de Dhaka (AFD) in the city’s Dhanmondi area recently.
Dr Serajul Islam Chowdhury, Professor Emeritus, University of Dhaka, inaugurated the
exhibition as the chief guest while eminent art critic Prof Moinuddin Khaled was also present as the special guest
on the occasion.
Samar Majumder is a multiple award-winning artist. Born in 1957, Majumder has been
creating artworks for more than thirty years now.
While talking about his
artworks Samar Majumder said, “I find pleasure in
expressing myself through paintings. Across the canvasses
I feel the most spontaneity
in articulating my thoughts. My country, my motherland Bangladesh is my greatest muse. I am an offspring of this remarkable land and on her soil I sense a repose that drives me,
empowers me to encase the beauty I see around me. My
feelings of affection, fondness, protest or sadness – everything is deeply amalgamated with Bangladesh. This interrelation, simple and lucid, is what I depict in my paintings and that
I believe, becomes associable to the viewers. This is my second solo exhibition which will feature paintings that I have created over the course of last three years.” n
