Ismail Hossain Khokon , a Jubo League (JL) activist and second in command of “Didar Bahini” died after he got injured in a “gunfight” between two rival groups in Laxmipur Sadar upazila at Kathali Bridge of Digholi Union early Tuesday.
Khokon, 36, second-in-command of local criminals’ gang , “Didar Bahini” was taken to Laxmipur Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, Md Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Laxmipur Sadar Police Station told the media.
Ismail was wanted in several cases, including killing and rape, filed with the police station, the OC said.
A team of law enforcers found Ismail bullet-hit in his legs around 12:30am when they were patrolling in Kanthalia village of Digholi Union of the upazila, said Md Zillur Rahman, a sub-inspector of the police station.
Police took him to Laxmipur Sadar Upazila. where two hours later Ismail succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, police said.
Our Laxmipur Correspondent adds: Khokon was son of Haji Ali Ahmed of neighbouring Charshahi Union. Earlier, he was reportedly picked up by members of law enforcing agencies, victims’ family members claimed. But the police denied it.
He was picked up on Monday evening by members of law enforcing agencies in a microbus, according to eye witnesses Mafizullah and Sohag. ASI Sarwar and SI Kamal Hossain were in the team which picked up Khokan and Sohag. But Sohag managed to escape, some eye witnesses claimed. Since then there was no trace of Khokon. There were marks of bullet wounds on his two legs. Meanwhile, Kamal Hossain, Investigation Officer of Dasher Hat police outpost said that they did not detain Khokan. Police found Khokon near Kathali Bridge with bullet wounds. Later, he was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, Kamal Hossain told the media. Charshahi Union Chairman Gulzar Mohammad said that Khokon was a Jubo League activist and second in command of local miscreants gang” Didar Bahini.”
