Societal Events Report :On the occasion of marking 153rd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, Channel i celebrated the AB Bank-Channel i Rabindra Mela 2014 at its premises in the city’s Tejgaon area on May 8, Boishakh 25, through various programmes. Senior and promising artistes alike performed Tagore songs on stage till 2:00pm, while noted painters Ranjit Das, Biren Shome, Abdul Mannan and Moniruzzaman painted on the theme titled “Tagore’s Life and Philosophy,” alongside children also doing the same. Eminent Tagore artiste Rezwana Chowdhury Bonnya’s new solo album titled Kon Gogoner Tara was also launched at the fair. The album is released from Impress Audio Vision. Meanwhile, this year, the organisers conferred lifetime achievement award upon noted Rabindra researcher, essayist and poet Ahmad Rafiq. Dr Ahmed Rafiq was honoured at the event. Noted artists, litterateurs, Tagore enthusiasts, cultural and media personalities with the Channel i family jointly inaugurated the day-long Rabindra Mela at 11:05am. Some 20 stalls featuring products of the cottage and handicraft industries, Pansupari (betel nut and leaf) and traditional food were taken place in the fair. Besides, live performances of music and dance were also presented at the event. Meanwhile, Channel i telecasted Rabindra Mela live.
