Two arrested on murder and abduction charges

Two arrested after a case has been lodged on Saturday afternoon against speedboat crews and association leaders in connection of killing one and mission another on Friday night.Mahbub Alam, officer in chare of Barisal Bandar police station, said Mahbub Alam, officer in charge of Barisal Bandar Police Station, said the dead victim was identified as Nashpati Begum, 35, and the missing one was her daughter Shaheri Akhtar, 13,. Dr. Golam Sarwar, a teacher of Dhaka Medical College and husband of dead and father of missing victims, as complainant lodged the case.In the case crews of both speed boats and association leaders of Barisal and Bhola were named as accused.After the case police arrested Kamal Sharif and Wahidul Islam, president and secretary of the Barisal speedboat owners association and continued drives to arrest others, the OC of Bandar PS told.
View exchange meet on TB held
 Under the auspices of Bagerhat district branch of NATAB (National Anti Tuberculosis Association of Bangladesh) a meeting for exchange of views with the members of civil society to create a social movement in order to control the tuberculosis was held in the local Ash Bangla NGO office with Prof. Mozaffar Hossain, president of NATAB, Bagerhat in the chair on Monday in the morning. While the address of welcome was given by FM. Mostafizul Haq, Secretary of Bagerhat NATAB explained the need and importance of holding such a meeting for exchange of views. Dr. Nazrul Islam, Deputy Civil Surgeon of Bagerhat while was speaking in the meeting as the chief guest told, TB is no more a fatal disease at present. It is fully curable if a TB patient is given treatment under DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment Short Course) system. He added, TB cannot be eradicated completely from the country we should try to control the same and no TB patient will die if he is detected in time and is given proper treatment. So he emphasized on the creation of awareness among the people about TB.  
Christmas celebrated in Sylhet City

Christmas, the biggest religious festival of the Christians community marking the birth of Jesus Christ, was celebrated in Sylhet City on Sunday with festivity and fanfare. On the occasion, special dishes were prepared in the families of members of the community and the children were seen seeking blessings from the elders.Apart from organizing special prayers in churches, cutting Christmas cakes, carol singing, exchange of pleasantries and decoration of Xmas trees and main houses of the Christian were the major features of the day. Churches in the city’s Noyasorak vibrated with daylong frequent visit of Christians where they joined in special prayers. A huge size Christmas cake was cut by the hotel authority with children of different ages who were present there.
Faridpur part of Biswa Ijtema to be held on Jan first week
FARIDPUR: Work on the preparation of Faridpur part of three day Biswa Ijtema consisting of only Faridpur district to be held on January 5,6 and 7 is going on in full swing. Service department including LGED, PHE, PDB, Pourshava, Upazilla parishad, WDB and law enforcing people are engaged in all ground work to hold the Ijtema for the first time here successfully and hazard less. It is learnt officially that there is likely to be a congress ion of 1.40 lakh people of the district. The Ijtema will be held at Adampur area in the suburb of the town. It may be mentioned here that the Biswa Ijtema, second biggest congregation of the Muslims after Hajj, reports BSS.
