Boishakhi Utsab at Bengal Shilpalaya

To spread the spirit of Pahela Boishakh, first day of Bengali month, Bengal Foundation organised a three-day Boishakhi Utshab at Bengal Shilpalaya in the city’s Dhanmandi area from April 13 to 15.
Folk music performances began in the morning session on Pahela Boishakh on April 14. Besides that, programmes began everyday at 6:00pm.
On the opening day, Faizur Rahman presented a dotara recital while singers Kabir Palash, Shimu Dey, Anindita Chowdhury, among others, rendered songs.
Rajrupa Chowdhury played sarod, while Kiran Chandra Roy and Chandana Majumdar rendered song in the festival.
Liton and his troupe ushered in Pahela Boishakh with dhak in the morning session, while Safiul Alam Raza, Halima Parveen, Siddikur Rahman and Bhajan Baul performed folk songs. Meanwhile, the evening session had Murtaja Kabir Murad on flute.
Sharmila Majumdar, Borsha Majumdar, Supriya Das and Priyanka Das performed raga-based songs; Bhaswar Bandopadhyay recited; Nahid Sultana, Sumona Rahman and Jhuma Khandakar rendered modern songs and noted singers Sharmin Sathi Islam, Sumon Chowdhury, Khairul Anam Shakil, Bulbul Islam and Shama Rahman performed songs of ‘five poets,’ Panchokobir Gaan in the session.
The concluding day’s programme began with a sitar recital by Firoz Khan.
Hasan Arif recited poem, while renowned singers Farida Parveen, Aditi Mohsin, Mita Haq, Sadi Mohammad, Rezwana Chowdhury Bonnya and Iffat Ara Dewan rendered songs in the festival.n
