Cardiff International School Dhaka (CISD) has celebrated Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year, with huge enthusiasm, joy and gaiety. On this occasion, the CISD chalked out elaborate programmes that included enjoyment of panta-ilish, bringing out colourful rally, arrangement of Baishakhi Mela, symposium, and cultural programme with participation of celebrity singers. ATN Bangla Programme Advisor Nawajesh Ali Khan was present at the function as the chief guest, while the Principal Head of School G M Nizam Uddin presided over the programme. Former national football team captain Aminul Islam and some foreign players joined the function.
Nawajesh Ali Khan in his speech said that Bengali Culture is very much alive, active and vibrant and that is abundantly clear in the spontaneous celebration of Bengali New Year. The Principal Head of School G M Nizam Uddin glorified the role of Pahela Baishakh in the life of the Bengali people. “Although our indigenous culture has been turned into a mixed culture due to transformation, Bengali culture has not lost its identity and vanished from the face of the earth,” he said.
