Six people were killed and Nine others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Bagerhat, Madaripur, Barisal and Chittagong on Saturday. In Bagerhat, two people were killed and two others injured in separate lightning strikes in Mollahat and Morelganj upazila at noon. The deceased were identified as Ajam Sheikh, 48, son of Insan Sheikh of Maniknagar village in Rampal upazila, and Alamin Khan, 34, son of Yunus Khan of Chandipur village in Rampal upazila. Residential medical officer of Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex Rafiqul Islam Gazi said two people –Ajam and Khan Jahan Ali — were taken to the health complex at noon after they sustained injures being hit by thunderbolts while working at a shrimp enclosure at Kendua Beel in Mollahat upazila. Later, Ajam was drclared dead at the hospital. Officer-in-charge of Mollahat Police Station M Rashedul Alam said farmer Al-Amin died on spot and another was injured as a thunderbolt hit them at Chandpur village during rain at noon. In Mdaripur, Foysal Sardar, son of Nayan Sardar of Charshemail village in Shibchar upazila, suffered injures as a thunderbolt struck him at Kawrakandi launch Ghat at noon. Foysal was taken to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead. Besides, an unidentified child died on the spot by lightning strike at Kadam Bari in Rajoir upazila. In Barisal, a vendor, Sobhan, 52, son of Safur Ali of Gobindapur village in Hijla upazila, was killed by lightning strike in the upazila. Besides, six people were injured in separate lightning strikes in the upazila. In Chittagong, Roni Chandpoti, 20, a worker of Khoiachhora tea garden, was killed and another one injured in a lightning strike at the garden in Fatikchhari upazila on Saturday afternoon. The injured was admitted to Chittaging Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). Bhujpur Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Hamid confirms the incident. — Dhaka, June 11 (UNB)
