A total of 94 Bangladeshi nationals stranded in war-torn Lebanon returned home on Tuesday night as they were facing mounting challenges due to the ongoing conflict.
In a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Beirut, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the returnees arrived on flight EK 584 at 11:00 PM under a government-funded initiative.
This marks the 17th flight arranged for such repatriations, with a total of 1,142 Bangladeshi nationals successfully brought back home from Lebanon since the onset of the conflict, foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
Upon arrival at the airport, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and IOM extended a warm welcome to the returnees.
The IOM provided each individual with Tk5,000 in pocket money, essential food supplies, and basic medical assistance.
Ministry officials also engaged with the returnees, discussing their experiences amid the conflict and ensuring their well-being.
Given the escalating conflict in Lebanon, the Bangladesh government has pledged to repatriate all willing expatriates at its own expense.
The Bangladeshi Embassy in Beirut is working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of those who wish to come back while prioritizing the safety and security of those who choose to remain.
This effort underscores Bangladesh’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad and addressing the challenges posed by the volatile situation in Lebanon.
