Police have apprehended nine individuals following a raid on an NGO office, suspected of being involved in a scheme to embezzle Tk 500 crore under the guise of constructing health complexes across eight districts of Rangpur division.
The operation, conducted by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police, resulted in the recovery of various tools utilized in the fraudulent activities.
Shah Nur Alam Patwari, ADC (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Detective Police, confirmed the details to the media, stating, “Based on information provided by the National Security Intelligence Agency (NSI), we conducted a raid on the premises of Adarsh Jubo Karma Sansthan in the Gomastapara area of Rangpur city on Monday.”
He further added, “During the raid, we apprehended nine individuals, and subsequently, we seized a desktop computer utilised for fraudulent activities, a hard disk, various documents, attendance registers, and several office registers belonging to the officials.”
The arrested individuals were identified as Riyad Hossain, the district coordinator of the NGO, Supervisor Pradeep Kumar Acharya, Upazila Coordinator Fazle Rabbi, Accounting Officer Pradeep Roy, Assistant Upazila Coordinators Sajjad Hossain and Md. Golzar Hossain, along with computer operators Nazrul Islam, Md. Alamgir Hossain, and Mali Md. Mahbub Hasan Limon.
They have been remanded to jail custody following the initiation of a case, as confirmed by the police officials.
