8th death anniv of IUBAT founder Dr. M Alimullah Miyan observed

International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) observed the 8th death anniversary of its founder and first Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. M. Alimullah Miyan, on Saturday.

Born on February 15, 1942, in Cumilla, Dr. Miyan passed away on May 10, 2017. A proud son of a valiant freedom fighter’s family, he was the younger brother of the late Bir Protik Colonel Shafique Ullah. Professor Miyan was a visionary pioneer who introduced the concept of private universities in Bangladesh, opening a new chapter in the country’s higher education landscape. In January 1991, under his leadership, IUBAT was established as the first non-government university in Bangladesh.

Dr. Miyan’s academic and professional accomplishments spanned across continents and decades.

He earned his Honors (1962) and Master’s (1963) degrees from the University of Dhaka, completed an MBA from Indiana University, USA, in 1968, and received his Doctorate from Manchester Business School, UK, in 1976.

He served as a long-time faculty member and Director at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, and was the founding Chairman of the Center for Population Management and Research (CPMR). From 1963 to 1994, Dr. Miyan served in various capacities as a teacher, researcher, and institutional leader.

He also worked as a visiting professor at Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria in 1981.

To commemorate his legacy, IUBAT has organized a range of events on campus including open discussions and reflections on his life and contributions, as well as special prayer sessions.

Professor Miyan was not only an educator but a dreamer who brought transformative change to higher education in Bangladesh. His visionary leadership and tireless efforts continue to inspire thousands of students and educators across the country.
