The Department of Environment has seized approximately 825 kilograms of banned polythene shopping bags from a manufacturing and storage facility in Narayanganj. Along with the seizure, a fine of Tk70,000 was imposed, and the electricity connection of the establishment was disconnected.
On Thursday , a mobile court operation was conducted under the leadership of Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner T.M. RahsinKabir, in cooperation with the Department of Environment, Narayanganj District Office, and RAB-11. The operation targeted illegal production and storage of banned polythene shopping bags. Md. Rasel Mahmud, Assistant Director of theDepartment of Environment, Narayanganj, acted as the prosecutor during the drive.
Under the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, the team conducted a raid on S.M. Packaging, a factory located in Kashipur, Fatullah, and recovered about 825 kilograms of banned polythene shopping bags from the premises.Officials said that such drives by the Department of Environment will continue in Narayanganj to curb the production, storage, display, use, and marketing of banned polythene shopping bags.
