The 8-year-old minor girl who was allegedly raped in an attack in Magura has died while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.
She breathed her last at 1pm on Thursday, the Inter-Services Public Relations, or ISPR, informed in a press release.
Col. Nazmul Hamid, professor of pediatric neurology at Dhaka CMH, said the child had two cardiac arrests on Thursday morning.
After CPR, it took nearly 30 minutes for the heartbeat to return. Again, the kid suffered cardiac arrest around 12:00 pm. Despite this round of CPR, her heart bit did not return. She was pronounced dead around 1 pm.
Earlier, on Wednesday night, the child was raped by her sister’s father-in-law, who was allegedly helped by his son.
Later, on March 8, she was taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and then to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
In this regards, the Chief Adviser to the interim government, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the child.
Yunus also ordered bringing the accused to book through speedy trial, said Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam said that the investigation into the child rape case in Magura has been ordered to be completed as soon as possible.
An investigation report will be submitted to the court against those involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, Dr Asif Nazrul, Law Adviser of the interim government, has announced that the trial for the child rape and murdered in Magura will commence within a week.
He said it while speaking at a press briefing at the ministry on Thursday.
“There are precedents of rape trials concluding in seven to eight days.
We are ensuring swift justice in this case as well,” he stated.
Providing further updates, the law adviser confirmed that the autopsy of the victim would be completed within the day, with DNA samples already collected.
The forensic report is expected within five days. So far, 12 to 13 individuals have recorded their statements under Section 161.
To expedite justice in such cases, he revealed plans to establish special tribunals dedicated to handling rape and sexual assault trials.
Additionally, the government is aiming to issue an ordinance amending the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act by Sunday.
The death of child Asia has cast a shadow of grief over her area. When the news of her death reached her village, her relatives burst into tears. Neighbors rushed to the house. They too could not hold back their tears.
The mother of victim child who died of sexual abuse, has said, “I want the death penalty for those who did bad things to my daughter.”
