8 to get Independence Award 2025

Eight distinguished individuals will receive the Independence Award 2025 in recognition of their exceptional and outstanding contributions at the national level.

The information was shared by a high-level government source with the media on Thursday.

The official announcement of the awardees’ names will be made soon, according to the source.

The recipients of the Independence Award for 2025 are: MAG. Osmani – Chief Commander of the Liberation War, Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam, scientist, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, founder of BRAC, Badruzzaman Umar, writer and intellectual, Al Mahmud , poet, Novera Ahmed, sculptor and one of the designers of the Central Shaheed Minar, Azam Khan – king of Pop and Abrar Fahad, BUET student (posthumous) The news regarding Abrar Fahad receiving the Independence Award had earlier been confirmed by Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives of the interim government.

Abrar Fahad was a student at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

He was tragically killed in October 2019 after being tortured by members of the now-banned student organisation, Chhatra League.

This year’s awardees represent a wide array of fields, from science and literature to social development and cultural contributions, honoring those who have made significant and lasting impacts on the nation.

The Independence Award is the highest national award in Bangladesh, given to individuals who have made exceptional contributions in various fields.

The recipients will be awarded a 50-gram 18-carat gold medal, a cash honorarium, and a certificate of recognition.

This recognition of these remarkable individuals highlights their enduring impact on the nation’s cultural, intellectual, and social fabric.
