8 killed in separate road misps across country

At least eight people, including 5 in Munshiganj, were killed and 20 over injured in several road crashes across the country on Saturday.
In Munshiganj, at least five persons were killed and several others injured in the accident on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Srinagar upazila of the district earlier Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Zillur Rahman, 65, son of Bazlur Rahman; Dr Jalal, 65, son of Insan Ali; Abdul Halim, 55; and Hasib, 32, son of Md Bappi.
Meanwhile identity of the bus helper couldn’t be known immediately. The accident took place near the midpoint between Singpara-Nauapara and Hasara Bridge-2 when a Dhaka-bound ‘Hamdan Express’ bus from Jashore hit a truck from behind, said Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Police and Srinagar fire service rescued the injured and rushed them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Upon reaching there, bus helper Hasib succumbed to his injuries.
Confirming their death Hasara highway police station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Quader Zilani said both drivers fled the scene after the accident.
However, police managed to resume traffic movement on the road later with the help of the highway police, fire service, and local administration. An investigation is currently underway.
In Magura, a man was killed and two others were injured in a road accident at Alomkhali area in Sadar upazila on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Tayab Ali, 60, a resident of the same area.
The accident took place around 2.30 pm when a private car collided head-on with a rickshaw-van, leaving the van driver and two passengers injured, said Alamgir Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Magura Highway Police Station.
Locals rescued and sent them to Magura 250-bed hospital where the on-duty doctors declared Tayab Ali dead, the OC added.
In Jamalpur, a man was killed and one injured after being hit by a private car at Dewanganj upazila of the district on Saturday.
The accident occurred in Pollakandi Bridge area on the Dewanganj-Sanandbari road in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Ataur Rahman, 50, a resident of Pollakandi village under Bahadurabad union and an assistant teacher at Pollakandi High School.
Meanwhile, a press release of Islami Andolan Bangladesh claims that an activist of their party named Golam Mostafa died in a road crash when he was heading to Dhaka from Natore on Saturday morning.
