8 get life imprisonment for killing farmer in Netrakona

A court here on Sunday sentenced eight people to life imprisonment for killing a farmer in Netrakona in 2012.
The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, they will have to serve 5 more years more imprisonment.
Judge Md Hafizur Rahman of District and Sessions Judge’s Court handed the judgment in the presence of the accused on Sunday (November 17) afternoon.
The convicted individuals are Ismail Hossain, Kajal Mia, Mojibur Rahman, Ashrab Ali, Samedul, Shajahan Ali, Nazrul and Nurul Amin of Nanderchati village of Durgapur upazila.
According to the prosecution, Rafiqul Islam alias Rohit, son of Abdul Motaleb, was a supporter of a winning Union Parishad member candidate. This led to a conflict with supporters of the defeated candidate, Tota. In an act of anger, the accused allegedly killed Rafiq, who had gone to irrigate land on January 25, 2012, and disposed of his body by placing it in a sack. The body was later discovered by the police. On January 26, 2012, a case was filed at Durgapur Police Station following a complaint lodged by Rafiq’s father, A. Motaleb.
