The Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh has launched a workshop-based filmmaking initiative in eight divisional cities to promote cultural development and decentralisation.
The selected filmmakers include Anam Biswas, Shankha Dasgupta, Nuhash Humayun, Humaira Bilkis, Shaheen Dill-Riaz, Robiul Alam Robi, Tasmiah Afrin Mou and Mohammad Touqir Islam.
These filmmakers will travel to eight different divisional cities across the country, conducting workshops on film production and creating films with a trained workforce.
The Cultural Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki said, “I believe this will be a very important project. The government is not giving any prescriptions for these films. They will have the freedom to work independently. We hope they do not create propaganda films. We are optimistic that this initiative will be successful.”
It was revealed during a press conference on Tuesday that the films (35-50 mins each) are set to be completed by June. The Ministry of Culture will fully fund the production of these films. The films will be showcased at a large festival in July. Afterwards, they will be gradually released in cinemas, TV channels, OTT platforms and YouTube channels.
A search committee, formed last December, selected these filmmakers to conduct workshops and create films in 2025.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs seeks to connect youth from Dhaka and beyond with filmmaking promoting skill development.
