In the past 24 hours, eight more people have died from dengue in the country, bringing the total death toll in November to 92.

This information was shared by the Health Directorate in a press release on Saturday. According to the report, 994 individuals were hospitalized with dengue during the last 24 hours.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the largest number of dengue hospitalizations outside Dhaka’s city limits occurred in the Dhaka division, with 238 new admissions.

The rest of the country is also seeing a rise in cases, with Barishal division reporting 119 new hospitalizations, Khulna division 74, Chattogram division 65, and Rajshahi division 61. Mymensingh division recorded 46 cases, Rangpur division 6, and Sylhet division 1.

So far this year, dengue has led to 78,595 hospital admissions across Bangladesh, with 30,879 cases reported in the month of October alone. November continues to show alarming trends, with 16,778 people hospitalized due to dengue infections so far.

Dengue outbreaks are typically less severe in November, as the cooler weather tends to reduce mosquito activity. However, this year’s persistent surge has defied expectations, raising concerns that the current pace of infections could lead to unprecedented records for hospitalizations and fatalities.

Last year marked the worst dengue outbreak in Bangladesh’s history, with 321,179 cases and 1,705 deaths. While this year’s death toll has reached 384, experts warn that the situation could worsen if the upward trend continues.
