At least eight students of Barishal University (BU) students were injured in the attack by locals for smoking in front of seniors. Among them, two students were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment in hospital.
Those undergoing treatment in the hospital are Rakib Munshi of the Law Department of the 2021-22 session, Saleh Mir and Zobair Islam of the same department of the 2022-23 session.
The injured on Monday afternoon said based on such news that a student of Barishal University was detained by the locals for smoking in front of the seniors of the Refugee Colony (Khaledabad) area in the city.
Hearing the news, classmates of the detainees rushed to the Refugee Colony (Khaledabad) in Banglabazar area of the city on Sunday (May 12) around 11:30 pm. At that time, the students were attacked with sharp weapons during an argument with the locals. At least eight students were injured in this incident.
Later, with the intervention of the police administration, the injured were rescued and admitted to Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital for treatment.
