Speakers at a meeting on Friday unanimously observed that both the 7th November and 5th August revolutions happened with the similar targets and those were for attaining national liberation through fighting against supremacists.
The slogans of both revolutions were the same. The 7th November movement was a Sepoy-Janata uprising, while the 5th August upsurge was a nationwide movement joined by the masses under the leadership of students.
Professionals and academics made the observations while addressing a seminar titled “Success of Revolution and Mass-up surging: from 7th November to 5th August” held at Senate Bhaban of Rajshahi University (RU).
Editor of Daily Amar Desh Dr Mahmudur Rahman addressed the sAeminar as chief guest on the topic, while RU Vice-chancellor Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib was in the chair.
Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Mayeen Uddin and Prof Farid Uddin Khan spoke as special guests.
Dr Mahmudur Rahman said the young generation vanguard of the 5th August didn’t see 1971 but they have seen the tyrannical autocratic rule patronized by the supremacist.
“We are still in the revolution process. We have to reach a democratic system through a transparent election,” he said, adding the upcoming election will be a challenge for us.
RU Vice-chancellor Professor Saleh Hassan Naquib said, “We get inspiration from 7th November. Basically, the freedom and sovereignty of Bangladesh were reflected on November 7.”
He said November 7 is not just a date in the calendar but a symbol of national unity and democratic consciousness.
“On this day, democratic forces opened a new chapter in the nation’s history,” he said.
