74 face charges over clash during SCBA polls

An official of the Supreme Court Bar Association has filed a case against 74 people, including former law minister Anisul Huq, over a violent clash during the association’s elections more than two years ago.

The case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station by the organisation’s Administrative Officer Rabiul Hassan on Saturday.

Other suspects include former attorney general AM Amin Uddin, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, MK Rahman, Bashir Ahmed, former president of the bar Md Momtazuddin Fakir, secretary Abdun Nur Dulal, former deputy attorney general Motahar Hossain Saju, and police officer Harunor Rashid, reports bdnews24.com.

Shahbagh police chief Khalid Mansur said, “Investigation is ongoing, but no one has been arrested.” On Mar 15, 2023, several journalists were assaulted by police while covering the Supreme Court Bar Association elections, as tensions flared between lawyers supporting the Awami League and those supporting the BNP.
