The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 10,000 kg of jatka (juvenile hilsa) worth approximately 70 lakh taka in the Kanchpur area of Sonargaon, Narayanganj. The information was confirmed on Wednesday (10 December) by Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-Ul-Haq. He said that around 11 PM on 9 December, based on secret information, Coast Guard Station Pagla conducted a special operation near the
Kanchpur Bridge. During the raid, they searched a suspicious covered van and seized 10,000 kg of jatka valued at around 70 lakh taka. The driver and the helper were released along with the van after signing a bond. Siam-Ul-Haq added that the seized jatka were later distributed among local orphanages and impoverished families in the presence of the
Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer. He said the Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to protect the country’s fish resources.
