70 injured in Patharghata AL-BNP clash 50 motorcycles vandalised

At least 70 people were injured during a clash between the activists of Awami League and BNP at Patharghata in Barguna on Sunday afternoon.
Besides, the leaders and activists of ruling party Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) allegedly attacked the motorcade of former BNP MP of Barguna-2 constituency Nurul Islam Moni.
At that time, more than 50 motorcycles were vandalised and 2 motorcycles were also torched.
Acting Officer-in -Charge (OC) of Pathorghata Police Station Abul Bashar said that five police personnel were injured to bring the situation under control.
He also said both party activists vandalised each other’s motorcycles.
Abul Bashar also said additional police personnel were deployed in the area to avert any untoward situation.
Patharghata upazila BNP Secretary Chowdhury Faruk said that the Upazila BNP organised a demonstration procession and a rally, which were scheduled to be held on Monday protesting price hike of oil, gas and other essential commodities.
Former BNP MP Nurul Islam Moni was heading for Pathorghata from Dhaka by road to attend the rally.
“As soon as Nurul Islam Moni reached C&B area of the town,
then both AL and BCL activists attacked his motorcade, leaving 70 BNP activists injured,” claimed BNP Secretary Chowdhury Faruk.
He also claimed that AL and BCL activists also vandalised 70 motorcycles and they torched two 2 motorcycles.
Chowdhury Faruk said that thousands of activists of AL and BCL, led by Raihanpur Union chairman Mainul Islam and Kakchira Union chairman Alauddin Paltu, attacked the motorcade of Nurul Islam Moni with locally made weapons and sticks.
 As a result, Nurul Islam Moni and Chowdhury Faruk got injured.
General Secretary of Patharghata upazila Awami League Jakir Hossain said that Pathorghata upazila Awami League also called a rally on Monday, protesting the anarchy of BNP, attack and vandalism, and derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
At that time, a team of Jubo League and Chhatra League, led by Raihanpur Union chairman Mainul Islam and Kakchira Union chairman Alauddin Paltu, went to C&B area for the publicity of the rally. Then, Nurul Islam Moni was coming with over 500 of motorcycles like a terror style. “Seeing our activists, they attacked on them.”
