The fire that broke out in the forest of Sundarbans within Amurbunia patrol outpost under Chandpai Forest Range in the Eastern Division (in Bagerhat district) on May 04 was completely brought under control. On the same day a 3-men committee headed by Rana Dev, ACF (Assistant Conservator of Forest) of Chandpai Forest Range in the Eastern Division of Sundarbans was formed in order to find out the reasons behind the fire incidents and submit the report to the concerned authorities within 7 working days. As per the decision the committee started to investigate into the matter. But after passing 5 days the committee sought 7 more working days in order to complete the investigation report.
Amir Hossain Chowdhury, CCF (Chief Conservator of Forest), Bangladesh confirmed the matter (on Saturday May 11, 2024) and said, though at present there is no fire in anywhere of Sundarbans the Investigation Committee sought 7 days (1week) more working days and it was granted the same by Kazi Nurul Karim, DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) of the Eastern Sundarbans.
Rana Dev (ACF), Assistant Conservator, Chandpai Forest Range and the head of the Investigation Committee told the newsmen on Saturday afternoon, another committee was already formed with the experts to ascertain the loss or damage of biodiversity of the forest due to the fire incident. We (the first committee) are to assist the other committee to discharge their duties perfectly. So, the first committee could not complete their investigation report in time. So, before the expiry of time it (first committee) sought 7 days more to investigate into the matter to find out the reasons behind the fire incident. It may be mentioned here that on the 2nd day of the fire incident (on May 05) another committee was formed to ascertain the loss or damage of biodiversity of Sundarbans by Amir Hossain Chowdhury, CCF (Chief Conservator of Forest).
