At least seven persons were killed and many others injured when a train rammed into an auto-rickshaw at an unauthorized railway crossing in Kalikapur area under Burichong upazila of Cumilla on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place around 10:00 am when the Subarna Express train, traveling from Chattogram, struck the auto-rickshaw as it attempted to cross the tracks.
The deceased have been identified as Rafique Mia, Lutfa Begum, Sanu Mia, Safarjan Begum, and Saju Mia, all residents of Bakshimool village in Burichang upazila.
Burichang Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Azizul Haque said that Chattola Express hit the auto-rickshaw in the area around 10:00 am, leaving four people dead on the spot and injuring four others. Later, three injured died on the way to a hospital.
Railway police were informed about the accident. Legal steps will be taken in this regard, the OC added.
