At least seven people were killed and several others injured in two separate road crashes in the country on Thursday.
In Tangail, four people, including three in a family, were killed in a road accident on the Tangail-Jamalpur Road at Gangair bus stand under Madhupur upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.
The victims have been identified as Mayen Uddin, 50, of Paitka village under Dhabari upazila in the district, his wife Sahera Begum, 35, and their son Siam, 7, and van driver Farhad Hossen, 35, son of Daraz Ali of the same area.
Locals said that they were going to Dhanbari by a battery-run rickshaw-van.
Murad Hossain, Inspector (Investigation) of Madhupur police station confirmed the matter to the media saying that the accident took the place when a Dhaka-bound bus of Binimoy Paribahan from Dhanbari rammed the battery-run rickshaw-van from opposite direction.
The accident left three people dead on the spot and the child died on the way to Madhupur upazila Health Complex, Inspector said.
Meanwhile, three people, including a couple, were killed and two others injured when a pickup van hit a covered van on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Kazir Dighi area in Feni in the wee hours of Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as pickup driver Abu Sayeed, 29, son of Baker Miah, Shimul, 30, son of Jamal Miah and his wife Yesmin, 28.
According to locals and police, Shimul and his wife were going to Cumilla from Chattogram by a pickup van on Wednesday along with their home accessories. When the vehicle reached Kazir Dighi area, it hit a standing covered van from behind around 2:30am on Thursday. At that time, five people, including the couple, were injured critically and rushed them to Feni General Hospital where the duty doctors declared three of them dead.
