Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-14) have arrested on Saturday, at least seven people, including main accused, in the lynching of a Hindu youth on charges of blasphemy in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh.
They were arrested in raids at various locations in Mymensingh on Saturday.
The press wing of the chief advisor said that, the arrested persons are initially suspected to be directly involved in the murder.They are Limon Sarkar (19), Tarek Hossain (19 ), Manik Mia (20), Ershad Ali (39), Nizum Uddin (20), Alamgir Hossain (38), Md. Miraj Hossain Akon (46).
It is learnt that the accused had left the area and gone into hiding after the murder. Based on intelligence information, several RAB teams conducted raids in various places in Mymensingh district. During the raids, it was possible to arrest the seven accused on charges of involvement in the murder.
It is worth noting that a few days ago, a Hindu youth was brutally beaten to death in Bhaluka on charges of blasphemy. The incident created widespread tension in the area and locals were demanding speedy justice. After police including RAB jointly launched an investigation, some of the accused were arrested Saturday.
