The government has finalized a name for the new university that will incorporate seven prominent government colleges in Dhaka city. Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder announced today that the proposed institution will be named Dhaka Central University.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the afternoon, Azad confirmed the decision and outlined the next steps in the approval process. Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Ahammad Foyez were also present at the briefing.
An interim administrator for the university will be nominated from among the principals of the seven colleges. The university’s headquarters will be determined based on the college whose principal is selected for this role, Azad explained.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has already conducted interviews with the principals of the seven colleges, and the proposed name will now be sent to the Ministry of Education before proceeding to the Council of Advisers for formal approval.
The decision was made during a meeting held at the UGC today, where a delegation of students from the colleges was also present. The initiative aims to streamline administrative and academic activities for these institutions under a unified university system.
The seven colleges set to be incorporated under Dhaka Central University are Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College, Government Titumir College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Government Bangla College.
