Mongla Port ushered in a new era in the history of the Port after importing as may as 61 thousand 303 reconditioned cars during the last 4 years (from July, 2021 to June, 2025) alone.
It is disclosed by Md. Makruzzaman, Deputy Director (Mass Communication) of Mongla Sea Port Authorities. The DD added, 50 percent of the total income of the Port was earned from this sector alone during the period.
The Deputy Director further disclosed, a private company named ‘Haqus Automobile’ imported some 255 reconditioned cars from Japan through Mongla Sea Port on June 03 in the year 2009 for the first time in the history of the Port and as its continuation 70 percent reconditioned cars have been imported from this Port and consequently, the revenue of the Port increased to a great extent.
The Deputy Director of the Port Authorities further disclosed, a plan was undertaken by the concerned authorities to import cent percent reconditioned cars through Mongla Sea Port for the first time just after enhancing the tariff up to 41 percent on the imported reconditioned cars and other articles by Chottogram Sea Por Authorities in the financial year of 2025-26.
By this time the leaders of BRVIDA (Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers’ Association) informed the Mongla Port Authorities of the matter After the construction of the long desired Padma Bridge the distance from the capital city Dhaka to Mongla Sea Port was shortened almost 50 percent.
As a result, an effective connectivity was established between Mongla Port and the businessmen of almost of the whole country.
Following the development of the road connectivity and minimizing the distance the imported reconditioned cars now take only 3 to 3-30 hours to reach the Capital city Dhaka from Mongla Sea Port.
The leaders of BRVIDA (Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers’ Association) informed Mongla Port Authorities of the matter (import of the cent percent reconditioned cars through Mongla Sea Port).
The Port Authorities responded a significant consent to the proposal (of the BRVIDA).
If this proposal of BRVIDA is translated into practice the revenue of the Mongla Port will be increased to a great extent.
It may be mentioned here that Mongla Sea Pot did not enhance the tariff on the any exported items for the financial year of 2025-26.
