In the past 24 hours, police have recovered three more bodies in Narayanganj, including that of a newborn. The victims are Delwar (30) from Rupganj, an unidentified newborn, and Sirajul (70), an elderly man from Sonargaon. The bodies were recovered on Saturday (April 12) from different locations in the Sonargaon and Rupganj upazilas of the district.
Earlier on Friday (April 11) afternoon, police found the dismembered bodies of a woman and two children stuffed inside a sack near a rented house in Mizmizi Paschim Para, Siddhirganj, which belonged to the late Akhtar Hossain. With these latest incidents, six bodies have been found in Narayanganj in just two days, sparking widespread panic among residents. Concerned citizens are warning that the law and order situation in the district appears to be deteriorating.
According to police sources, around 9:30 AM on Saturday, police recovered the body of a young man named Delwar Hossain from a plot in Sector 1 of Purbachal in Rupganj. A blood-stained knife was also found beside the body. The victim, Delwar Hossain, was the son of Abu Sayeed from Sholakia, Kishoreganj Sadar.
Police suspect that unknown assailants stabbed him multiple times during the night and dumped the body there.
Later, around 11:00 AM, the body of a newborn was found in an abandoned property in the Khaishar area, along the Demra-Kaliganj road in Daudpur.
In a separate incident in Sonargaon on Saturday morning, the body of 70-year-old Sirajul Islam was found in the bushes near a sandy field beside the Menikhali River, a branch of the Meghna, in Kandargaon under Pirojpur Union. Sirajul had been missing since April 6. He was a resident of Jhauchar village in the same union.
After his disappearance, his son, Shamim Reza, filed a general diary with Sonargaon Police Station on the morning of April 7.
Police believe that Sirajul may have collapsed due to a stroke or some other medical emergency and was unable to get back up.
Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liaqat Ali and Sonargaon Police Station OC Mohammad Mofizur Rahman confirmed that all the recovered bodies have been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy. Separate legal procedures have been initiated in connection with each incident.
