Due to the ongoing war, 52 Bangladeshi expatriates from Lebanon have set off for Dhaka on Thursday. They are traveling from Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport to Dhaka via Dubai.

This is the sixth group of expatriate Bangladeshis returning voluntarily after applying to the Bangladeshi embassy in Beirut.

According to a press release from the Bangladeshi embassy in Beirut, the flight carrying these passengers departed from Beirut at 7:20 am and is scheduled to land at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11pm on Thursday.

The statement indicates that returnees have completed the process of preparing necessary travel documents, including passports and residence permits, through the embassy to ensure a smooth and orderly return.

Previously, the Bangladesh embassy in Beirut had issued a notice encouraging interested Bangladeshi citizens to register their names for repatriation.

Meanwhile, a total of 54 Bangladeshi citizens from Lebanon returned home on the evening of October 21.

In the second group, a total of 65 expatriates, including two newborns, arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on October 23 at 5:34 PM after a stopover in Jeddah on a commercial flight (SV 810) from Saudi Arabia.

The third group, consisting of 31 Bangladeshis, arrived in Dhaka at 1 AM on October 24 on a commercial flight (SV 802) from Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport, also stopping in Jeddah.

The fourth group of 30 expatriates landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday at 2:40 AM.

In the fifth group, another 36 Bangladeshis arrived at the airport on Tuesday night at 11 PM via Saudi Airlines flight EK-584.

In total, 216 Bangladeshis have returned home across five groups. With today’s 52 individuals, the total will reach 268.

This effort to bring back the expatriates has been made possible through coordinated actions by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Bangladeshi government.

Each returnee received Tk 5,000, basic food supplies, and initial medical assistance from the IOM.

With ongoing support from IOM-UN Migration and the European Union, repatriation efforts continue to ensure the safe return of Bangladeshis amidst the escalating conflict in Lebanon.

There are an estimated 70,000 to 100,000 Bangladeshi citizens in Lebanon, with about 1,800 expressing a desire to return home, according to the Foreign Ministry.
