A historic 10-kilometer road in Delduar upazila of Tangail remains untouched by development, even after five decades of independence. Starting from Lauhati Football Field and stretching through Char Lauhati and Momin Nagar to Pathrail, this road is nearly 100 years old. It connects the unions of Lauhati, Fazilhati, Nallapara, Elasin Atia, and Pathrail—serving nearly one lakh people daily.

Schoolchildren, patients, farmers, and workers all depend on this road. During the monsoon, it becomes a death trap. With thick mud and stagnant water, walking is difficult, and vehicle movement is nearly impossible.

Local resident Rezaul Karim Bhulu of Char Lauhati said, “Road development depends on political will. Delduar was long under Tangail Sadar constituency, whose MPs never prioritized this road. Now it’s merged with Nagarpur constituency, and again, their MPs don’t feel the need to address this road. We are invisible to them.”

The road, although in poor condition, is completely straight. “There is not a single curve in the full 10 kilometers,” said Bhulu. “Unlike other roads, there’s no need for land acquisition, curve-straightening, or earth cutting. The funds spent on fixing curved roads could easily restore this entire stretch.”

Political leaders cannot avoid responsibility — people are asking questions.

Ferdous Ahmed, General Secretary of the Upazila BNP, said, “Having a local MP is essential for any area’s development. We are working to establish Delduar as a separate parliamentary seat. For now, I’ve submitted a proposal to repair the 4 km stretch from Lauhati to Momin Nagar. We hope this step will pave the way for full road development.”

Though only four kilometers have been proposed for repair, this partial initiative could still reduce public suffering significantly. Schoolchildren, pregnant women, and emergency travelers will get some relief. Locals believe this can be the first step toward complete restoration.

Residents demand: end the discrimination, fix the straight, neglected road.
