The government is giving incentives to 50,000 marginal and small farmers to help the farmers affected by natural calamities in four districts of Sylhet division and to increase the production of crops in Rabi season. Total free fertilizer and seed assistance is being provided to the farmers through the incentive and rehabilitation program announced by the Agriculture Department.
Several rounds of floods have caused extensive damage to past Boro and Aush paddy. Marginal and small farmers have also suffered the most due to Corona. So that the production of Boro paddy and other crops in the coming rabi season is not interrupted and the farmers can continue farming uninterruptedly, the agriculture department has started distribution of free seeds and fertilizers to the farmers through incentive and rehabilitation program.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet along with the Sylhet Agriculture Department is distributing fertilizers and seeds among the farmers in different upazilas of Sylhet.
This year, 50,000 marginal farmers of Sylhet division are getting incentives under agricultural rehabilitation during rabi season. Under this program, the number of farmers are getting seeds of various crops including mustard seeds and chemical fertilizers.
Sources in the agriculture department said that considering that there may be a global crisis, so many farmers in the district have been brought under this incentive to overcome the upcoming crisis in the country.
According to Sylhet Agriculture Extension Directorate, the district will get free seeds and fertilizers under this incentive to increase the cultivation and production of mustard, sunflower, groundnut, soybean, winter onion, moong, lentil and khesari in rabi season in the fiscal year 2022-2023. 1 kg of mustard seeds, 10 kg of DAP and MOP fertilizers are being provided to mustard growers per person (category wise). A farmer will get seeds and fertilizers required for cultivation of one bigha of land. This incentive is being given from the agriculture rehabilitation support sector in the regular budget of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Additional Deputy Director of Sylhet Agriculture Extension Department Md Farooq Hossain said that this year 1 kg of mustard seeds, 10 kg of DAP and MOP fertilizers will be distributed among 21 thousand 700 farmers in 13 upazilas of Sylhet. 1850 in Sylhet Sadar, 1850 in Dakshin Surma, 1950 in Goainghat, 1140 in Balaganj, 1340 in Osmaninagar, 1550 in Companyganj, 1750 in Bishwanath, 1550 in Fenchuganj, 1950 in Golapganj, 1650 in Jaintapur, 1850 in Kanighat, 1650 in Jokiganj, 1620 in Biyanibazar among 21,700 kg of mustard seeds. 21 lakh 7 thousand kg of DAP and 21 lakh 7 thousand kg of MOP fertilizer will be distributed.
He also said that this year, 25,000 farmers in various upazilas of Sylhet will get Ufshi Boro rice seed and fertilizer support for Borodan production and 45,000 farmers will get high yielding Boro hybrid seed support.
Kazi Mujibur Rahman, Deputy Director of Sylhet Region of Agriculture Extension Department, said that 50 thousand kg of mustard seeds, 5 lakh kg of DAP and 5 lakh kg of MOP fertilizer will be distributed to 50 thousand farmers on 50 thousand bigha land of Sylhet division, making a total of 10 lakh kg of fertilizer. The government is providing these incentives to encourage farmers to produce. Sylhet Agriculture Department will remain in the field from the beginning of production till the produce reaches the farmer’s house.
